Frequently Asked Questions
Question:
Where do I begin?
Answer: If you’re thinking of building, go to a bank or mortgage institution to be “pre qualified”. This will give you a budget as to how much you can afford. Building in the country can be costly to bring in utilities, septic, drilling a well and the road, if you need one. Living outside of town and having your own property is worth it to have a little “elbow room”. Be sure you are not overbuilding before you consider these essential costs.
Question: Now what?
Answer: Before you buy property, call a few builders to meet you at the site. Will it be too expensive to build here?
Are you building in a hole? What about drainage? Has the site had a perc. test or well contingency? Ask your
Realtor. What about bringing in utilities and what can Cent Tex do for
you?
Question: How should I choose a builder?
Answer: Word of mouth is everyone’s best endorsement. Ask around and go look at job sites. Is the builder there, is it a clean and well kept? Talk to the clients and get referrals. What price
per foot can you expect. Every house is different but based on previous jobs,
contractors can give you an idea of costs and what you can expect.
Question: What about house plans?
Answer: If the builder does not have the capacity to draw plans, then you will need to choose an architect or a
draftsman.
